What is the role of a psychologist?
Psychologists are professionals who are trained to talk to people about a wide range of concerns or problems. Depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationships, and drug and alcohol issues are some of the areas that psychologists specialise in. Psychologists help individuals, couples and families to positively work through difficulties and acquire new skills to help people live a better life and to solve problems more effectively.
Please note, Mining Family Matters aims to provide positive, practical information for everyday families facing everyday problems - with a focus on mining families of course! Angie's columns and Q&As are not intended as a replacement for individual treatment of a specific medical condition. Always speak to your medical practitioner or specialist provider for advice on a specific issue.
To talk with a trained volunteer telephone counsellor at any time of the day or night, call Lifeline on 13 11 14. To contact the info line at beyondblue: national depression initiative, phone 1300 22 4636.
