Researchers at the Child Health Promotion Research Centre in WA are currently studying the health, wellbeing and resilience of adolescent children who live in fly-in fly-out families.

Jacinth Watson, senior research officer and PhD candidate with the centre, says very little is known about the impacts of FIFO on the resilience of adolescents or their ability to cope with everyday life experiences.

"We want to know how having a dad (or mum) who is a FIFO worker impacts adolescents," Jacinth says. "Our researchers are keen to learn what FIFO families already know: what works and what doesn’t work for FIFO families with teenagers. Eventually, it's hoped that our results can be used to provide advice for tomorrow’s FIFO families and their teenagers, so we're urging families to take part."

FIFO families with at least one child aged between 12 and 17 are needed. The at-home partner and adolescent/s will be asked to complete a once-only survey, while the FIFO worker can also be involved by completing a shorter once-only questionnaire. All surveys are confidential and will not be identifiable in the results of the research.
