Cook-tastic sites to spice up your kitchen
Welcome to Cookaholics Month! With so many new cooking accessories out there, I thought it would be great to go in search of some unique and groovy items to spice up your kitchen.
Let's start with www.theshoponline.com.au which stocks the irresistible Babushka doll measuring cups. These are really gorgeous and what a fantastic way to get little girls keen to do some cooking. Also online here are some fantastic sets of Joseph Joseph mixing bowls and measuring cups. They are multi-coloured and nesting which makes for some practical and neat storage. There are very cute flower dish brushes and measuring spoons and cups in flower shapes. The kitchen section at The Shop Online is definitely worth taking a look at – they have some great items and are very well priced.
www.larkmade.com.au has a brand new range of Cath Kidston (a gorgeous English designer) products online including oven mitts and tea towels in sweet floral prints. Lark also stocks Ellen G products which include a beautiful recipe box with cards and matching tea towels, oven mitts and aprons. You will also find the most beautiful patterned cupcake wrappers, paper plates and cups online at Lark – lots of very yummy goodies can be found here!
More great online ideas from Kathy:
- Handmade heaven: where to find it online
- Scrapbooking sites you're sure to love
- Beautiful sites for books, homewares, kids' stuff and more.
- Buying books online for overseas delivery.
- Fabrics and photos.
OO Online Shopping stocks the Chef salt and pepper grinders that are shaped like rabbits. They look great and most importantly grind very well. This website is huge and has a large range of kitchen and cooking products. Their items are well sorted into categories making things easy to find. It is a one-stop-shop much like www.crazysales.com.au which also stocks an extensive range of kitchen items – if they have the brand you are looking for it will probably be the best price here! These massive one-stop clearance stores are becoming very popular and more and more keep popping up online all the time. You do need to be a bit wary - sometimes things can be 'cheap and cheerful', as they say. Just make sure you do your research and read the fine print before making any major purchases.
We were all (well the girls, anyway!) very excited to discover the release of the new giant cupcake baking tin. I was happy to find a cast aluminium version available online at www.petersofkensington.com.au. These are the latest idea for birthday cakes, so get with it!
While the postage for www.sugarcraftbyrosie.com.au might seem a bit high, there appears to be very little they do not stock! Sugar Craft is jampacked with so many beautiful things. Check out the fantastic range of cupcake wrappers, stands and icings. Even if just for inspiration, this place is worth a quick visit (they also stock the giant cupcake pan). www.bakingpleasures.com.au is another site packed with baking and decorating goodies, including every cookie cutter you could ever imagine with very reasonable postage prices.
www.rawspace.com.au is an Adelaide-based store with a great range of unique and quirky gifts and homewares. They have a fantastic online kitchen section which includes some of my favourites such as a Babushka doll apron and nesting heart-shaped mixing bowls and matching heart-shaped measuring spoons and cups. (They also stock the Babushka measuring cups although they are cheaper at theshoponline). Raw also has a sister shop called Baby Raw which is well worth checking out for baby goods if you are in the market. (While you’re at Raw you must take a peek at the multi-coloured Gypsy chandelier which I have hanging in my daughter’s bedroom – it is fabulous!). Raw also has a great range of novelty salt and pepper shakers.
As mentioned in an earlier column, www.cookbooks.com.au is devoted entirely to cook books at discounted prices. Searching online for recipes is another galaxy in itself, one which needs little elaborating! Most of the recipes from your favourite magazines can be found online and www.taste.com.au is a popular recipe website where I've found some treasured recipes.
If you are looking for a personalised gift for use in the kitchen, then stop by at www.snapfish.com.au and order an apron with one of your family snaps on it. They are stain resistant and machine washable and the options are only limited by your imagination – and your photography!
Spice up your life with a visit to Herbies Spices (www.herbies.com.au). These spices are simply the best and currently featured on MasterChef. At the web store you can find recipes, cookbooks, kits (these are great – very yummy and they make great gifts for any men in your life that like to cook) and practical hints on all things spicy.
If you would rather sew something for the kitchen than cook in it, snap up some of the delectable fabrics available online and whiz up an apron or new tablecloth and matching napkins. The new confections collection is so sweet – view them at www.fabricworm.com or www.fatquartershop.com.
For those of you who are not domestic goddesses in the kitchen, maybe you can spice up the bedroom with some new bed linen this winter:
- www.lazybones.com.au is a fantastic shop which includes PJ’s and bed linen. The Rosette Cherry Quilt is top of my wish list (I just need to find the perfect shade of French grey for a feature wall to go behind it ... off to Porters Paints!)
- Ezibuy (Home) at www.ezibuy.com.au has some trendy new charcoal flannelette sheets. Many of you might already receive the Ezibuy mail order catalogues, if not you can join their mailing list online.
- www.comeinside.com.au is packed full of everything you could possibly need for your home.
- And finally, there is free shipping at www.aurohome.com.au until June 30. So what are you waiting for?
Please jot me an email if you're looking for anything specific online. In the meantime, get online and see what’s new!
